The Rookie is an American police procedural television series created for ABC by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is produced by ABC Studios and Entertainment One; it is based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s. In May 2021, the series was renewed for a fourth season which premiered on September 26, 2021.[1][2] On March 30, 2022, ABC renewed the series for a fifth season which premiered on September 25, 2022.[3][4]

The series has been building to a romance between Tim and Lucy for a while now. And we imagine the midseason finale would feature a development in their relationship. Perhaps Lucy will finally break up with Chris Sanford. Or maybe Tim and Lucy will finally admit that they have feelings for each other.

As viewers already know, ABC's Nathan Fillion-starring The Rookie will be returning on Sunday, December 4, with a two-hour, two-episode return. And now, we have an update to our previews for the season's next two episodes. In our Season 5 overview that follows, we have the official overview & promo for S05E08 "The Collar," and now we have preview images to accompany the official overview for S05E09 "Take Back." And don't forget that beginning Tuesday, January 3, The Rookie (8 pm ET) and The Rookie: Feds (9 pm ET) will be teaming up on the same night moving forward. In addition, the two shows will be joined at 10 pm ET by the Ramón Rodríguez-starring crime drama Will Trent (based on Karin Slaughter's bestselling novels). And to get the new year off on the right note, viewers can expect a crossover between the two shows.

The Rookie Season 5 Episode 8 "The Collar": Officers John Nolan (Fillion) and Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) are in a race against time to stop the source of an explosive rampage. The episode was written by Paula Puryear and directed by Robert Bella.

The Rookie Season 5 Episode 9 "Take Back": Officer John Nolan and the team investigate the unexpected death of a suspect in police custody. Their search also uncovers a very delicate loose end that could jeopardize Officer Celina Juarez's career. Meanwhile, Sergeant Grey (Richard T. Jones) and his wife, Luna (Angel Parker), go to New York to visit their daughter, Dominique (Jade Payton), only to realize she never made it home from the night before. The episode was written by Alexi Hawley and directed by David McWhirter.

Those who have been tuning in since season 1 will no doubt be familiar with the series having a break every once in a while. It allows the network to ensure they have enough installments to last the season and schedule.

The Rookie is an ABC original series and as such, episodes air live directly on the broadcast network. For those that have cut ties with traditional cable/satellite television, ABC is available to stream on live TV streaming services such as Fubo TV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV.

Since its premiere in October of 2018, "The Rookie" has become a highly-successful mainstay of ABC's programming; to the point where the series has even spawned a spinoff entitled "The Rookie: Feds," which premiered to a whopping 6.3 million viewers (via Variety). Indeed, "The Rookie" itself has amassed an immense audience throughout its first five seasons on the air, and the ongoing fifth season premiered to 8.2 million total viewers, according to a press release from ABC.

The incredible success and popularity that "The Rookie" has earned over the past few years make it one of the most prolific shows in ABC's programming, which is why it might surprise some fans that the series' fifth season is heading toward a short hiatus. In fact, plenty of fans online have already expressed their extreme displeasure at the nearly month-long wait for Season 5, Episode 8 of "The Rookie."

"You're telling me I've to wait a month ... give it to me now," tweeted @swiftlydynasty. "Have to wait a whole month!" echoed @Chenfordfan12 on Twitter, accompanied by a crying face emoji. Fans on Reddit were similarly confused and upset by the unexpected delay of Episode 8, with one user lamenting the 28-day wait period for the forthcoming episode and another fan reflecting that there will be no new episodes until December.

Although this brief episode promo may have come with some unwelcome news regarding the release date of the next episode, it did at least give fans a glimpse of what to expect when it finally releases. The promo revealed that this upcoming episode will see John Nolan and his fellow officers attempting to save a woman who has been forced to drive around Los Angeles with a bomb around her neck. Although fans certainly seem upset by the extended wait, the episode's promo makes it clear that "The Rookie" will return from its lengthy absence with a bang.

Followers of the ABC series have been eagerly waiting to see how episode 16 will unfold. It is especially so as The Rookie season five episode 15, titled, The Con, had a pretty interesting and stirring series of events.

As stated earlier, the highly awaited episode 16 of the crime drama series' fifth season will be released on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. It will air exclusively on the ABC TV Network. The airtime for the upcoming episode will be 8 pm ET.

The audience will only need a connection to the popular TV network to watch the new episode of the series. All preceding episodes of the series are also available on the streaming platform Hulu for viewers to stream.

Season five's upcoming episode has been titled, Exposed, and the director and the writer for the episode are yet to be disclosed by the network. The official synopsis for the new episode, released by ABC, reads:

By the looks of it, it is quite understandable that the episode will be full of some intensely woven dramatic sets of events. It will also show the entire team attempting to prevent a militia from blowing up a highly explosive truck that they got hold of.

The episode will showcase Thorson, Nolan, Harper, and Juarez looking for three people who have potentially been exposed to the life-threatening disease Ebola. Needless to say, the audience is in for a thrilling journey.
